Over/Under for the number of times Dina will use the term “on point” tonight is 3.
See now. If Dina had her ‘same sex marriage’, she would have married Debra and have to go through all the mess of divorce on top of finding a new job and place to live.
Dina, I was in real estate for years they pulled off a big one for you. Congrats!! We are on two different sides of the political world, but I feel for anyone who could lose their home. It is just unimaginable to see that happen. With your new line of work, whatever that will be, remember to always pay yourself first save for that rainy day. I make my living trading the market. Lots of pain at first but once you acquire the skill its literally like an ATM at times. To start you need to be willing to lose to learn (at least 10K) if not more. but after that, your schooled with a skill that no matter what happens you can survive well in life. If your interested I have a few books you need to read cover to cover first then ONLY PAPER TRADE until you get better. Just a thought. When people ask me how can they learn, I tell them to first go to the bank withdraw 10,000 dollars then go to the back yard pour gas on it and strike a match. IF you can handle it you can trade. Let Marc know he has my e-mail and I will give you some names of books and even send you a few. I hope you had some AAPL stock for the three years you were there that would be a great start. At 300 I invested 100K and still own it. Buts there are many opportunities every day. P.S. I’m not talking “Day trading” that’s the fast way to the poor house. I’ve gone on too long. have a great weekend
And if you get big enough (too big to fail), you get the tax payers baling you out of, what should be, your last “learning opportunity.” Sitting around and clicking in and out of trading sites and watching market gurus on TV all day. Sounds like a typical welfare case to me. If I had my way, anyone who makes their living taking their money to the track like that ought to lose their house when their luck runs out. Sounds like Dina worked for a living though and made the decision on her own. She just needs to look around and see what’s working for others with her kind of resume. It doesn’t sound like she has ten grand to roll the dice on the market with though.
Dusty if you’d ever listened to the show you would know that Dina did not ever want to get married, herself. What an ignorant thing for you to say.
I always assumed that Dina was working at the Apple Store when she said Bestbuy. Not a big secret there. What I didn’t understand is why someone with obvious skills would work low level retail. It sounded desperate. I know sometimes you have to do what you have to do, but…
I think I only once left a job before securing another. It’s a big risk. Sounds like she just needs to get out of Dodge. Come on out to the Silicon Valley. There are lots of jobs if you are even the slightest bit technical. The SF peninsula is boring as all shit, but it’s clean and mellow.
I’m just saying…
I think a lot of people get in a situation where they have experience and skills, but find it difficult to find a job that pays what they are worth. If you are unemployed, you get in a bad situation of “do I take this job that doesn’t pay much, or hold out for a job that pays what I’m worth?” Once you take the lower paying job, it gets more difficult to keep searching for a job, and then you have to deal with giving notice, etc.
Unemployment definitely sucks, and in this economy it’s worse, because so many people are desperate that many employers are not willing to pay much. I’m lucky to be employed, but right now I feel I am underemployed, and many of the jobs I see advertised are looking for people with bachelor degrees (in real subjects like business, etc.), and 5+ years experience, yet they are offering $16/hour.
From what I hear, the job situation in Silicon Valley is that either you have a doctorate in theoretical geodesic algorithms or turbo retro encabulation, in which case you might have a chance at google or intel. Or you take one of the many tech assembly jobs at one of the upstart hardware manufacturers. And most of those jobs are going to 3rd world countries. I think Marc is embarking upon the job growth areas of tomorrow. Get your biz on the web. Have side sources of income like real estate rental. Find something to sell on craigslist or ebay for your spare time. Yes lots of the 9-5, cradle to grave jobs are going away. Deal with it.
re: Salt Lake Tribune
It looks like the Tribune is owned by MediaNews group, but has some sort of operating agreement with the Deseret News, which IS owned by the Mormon church.
Hang in there, Dina. You have more balls than Marc. Then again, so do most people.
In regards to unemployment benefits, I was denied after quitting and during the interview with the Cali EDD, I told the gal that the employer lied to them and the child support payments I had to make were killing me. I received a check within 2 weeks.
Good luck!
